The Instant Pot Vortex Plus 6QT Stainless Steel Air Fryer with ClearCook and OdorErase (SKU 140-3089-01; appliance model AFB6112SS) is a 6-quart single-basket air fryer with an illuminated viewing window and replaceable odor filters. Its core proposition is simple: let cooks watch browning without repeatedly opening the basket, while attempting to reduce lingering cooking smells.

This is a research review, not a hands-on Hungry Bangla test. The model identity matters: 140-3089-01 is the ClearCook + OdorErase 6-quart model, while 140-3000-01 is the separate Vortex Plus 10QT Air Fryer Oven.

Editorial Notice

Hungry Bangla did not physically test this appliance. This review synthesizes current Instant official product documentation, the official user manual, TechRadar hands-on evidence for the ClearCook + OdorErase configuration, Homes & Gardens and Reviewed hands-on reviews, and RTINGS sibling/variant testing only for context. RTINGS tested SKU 140-3088-01 rather than the reviewed 140-3089-01 OdorErase model, so its quantitative measurements are not used as direct performance evidence here.

Design, dimensions, and 6-quart capacity

Instant lists this as a 6.0-quart / 5.7-liter appliance with a 1,700W rating on 120V / 60Hz power. Its official dimensions are 15.43 inches deep by 11.81 inches wide by 12.99 inches high, and the listed weight is 13.11 pounds. The control system combines touch controls with a dial for setting time and temperature.

For a household deciding whether a 6-quart basket is the right starting point, see our Air Fryer Size Guide. This remains a single-zone model: it can cook compatible foods together, but it cannot independently run two foods at different temperatures.

ClearCook window and internal light

ClearCook combines a viewing window in the basket with an internal cooking light. Instant positions the feature as a way to check food without opening the basket. That is a practical monitoring benefit, not a claim that the window improves cooking performance or replaces checking food safety with an appropriate thermometer.

TechRadar found the window and light useful for monitoring browning during cooking. Its tester also found the audible and visual Turn Food prompt useful for remembering to shake, turn, or rotate food. The manual documents those prompts, but this review does not claim that removing the basket automatically pauses every active cooking program because that behavior was not directly verified for all use cases.

OdorErase: useful feature, not an odor-free guarantee

OdorErase uses two preinstalled replaceable filters inside a removable filter housing. Instant's official replacement-filter set is SKU 210-0063-01, specifically designated for model 140-3089-01. The filters are replaced as a pair, and the manual describes resetting the filter indicator after replacement.

Instant says the filters reduce cooking odors, but a fixed replacement interval is not documented here and should not be estimated. More importantly, independent evidence does not support treating the system as a guarantee:

  • TechRadar detected a noticeable reduction in cooking smells during testing.
  • Homes & Gardens reported strong odor reduction in its comparative hands-on testing.
  • Reviewed did not find the OdorErase feature effective in its testing.

OdorErase appears useful in some hands-on testing, but independent results are mixed and it should not be treated as a guarantee of odor elimination.

Six cooking functions

The six U.S. Smart Programs are Air Fry, Roast, Bake, Broil, Reheat, and Dehydrate. Each can store customized time and temperature settings. The table below uses only the verified manual settings; it does not infer fan speeds or heater behavior.

Verified Smart Program defaults and selectable limits
FunctionDefault temperatureSelectable temperatureDefault timeSelectable time
Air Fry385°F180°F–400°F15 min1–60 min
Roast380°F180°F–400°F18 min1–60 min
Bake365°F180°F–400°F30 min1–60 min
Broil400°F350°F–400°F6 min1–40 min
Reheat280°F120°F–360°F10 min1–60 min
Dehydrate130°F95°F–175°F8 hr1–72 hr

The 95°F lower setting and 72-hour Dehydrate limit add low-temperature flexibility, while the maximum temperature remains 400°F. That ceiling is lower than 450°F alternatives, though a higher maximum temperature alone does not prove better results for every recipe.

Independent hands-on performance

TechRadar: fries, wings, noise, and usability

TechRadar's hands-on review of the ClearCook + OdorErase model reported crisp, evenly browned frozen fries. Its chicken wings browned and crisped without drying out, while homemade fries were also evenly browned. The reviewer measured operating noise at approximately 51.7 dB and characterized it as relatively quiet.

The same test identified two caveats. First, the crisper plate may fall out if the basket is tipped too far, so use tongs rather than relying on a steep basket tip to serve food. Second, the included cooking guidance was limited, meaning cooks may need to experiment—particularly with frozen foods. These are attributed testing observations, not Hungry Bangla test results.

Homes & Gardens and Reviewed: useful corroboration and disagreement

Homes & Gardens reported good fries and bacon, evenly cooked vegetables, a useful ClearCook window, and reduced smells during testing. Its physical dimensions and weight differ from current Instant documentation, so those measurements are intentionally not used here.

Reviewed likewise found ClearCook useful and reported crisp results, but it did not find OdorErase effective and criticized the manual. Together, these reports support a cautious verdict: the ClearCook window is a consistently useful usability feature, while independent testing produced mixed results for OdorErase.

RTINGS boundary

RTINGS tested SKU 140-3088-01 rather than the reviewed 140-3089-01 OdorErase model. Its quantitative lab measurements are therefore not used as direct performance evidence for this review. In particular, this article does not transfer RTINGS preheat time, basket surface area, temperature stability, fry-uniformity percentages, power draw, or fan-speed measurements to the reviewed model.

Cleaning, filter maintenance, and nonstick surfaces

Current Instant documentation lists the basket and cooking tray as dishwasher-safe, and the product FAQ specifies that the basket is top-rack dishwasher-safe. The product uses a nonstick basket and cooking tray; exact coating chemistry is NOT VERIFIED in the official material used for this review, so this article does not call it ceramic, PTFE-free, or PFAS-free.

Older independent reviews recommended hand-washing to preserve the ClearCook window, while Instant's current documentation lists the basket and tray as dishwasher-safe and the basket as top-rack dishwasher-safe. For everyday upkeep, let parts cool, avoid abrasive tools, clean the cooking chamber as needed, and follow the manual supplied with the appliance. Our air fryer cleaning and maintenance guide explains the broader care routine.

Filter maintenance is the additional ownership task. The housing is removable, the appliance uses two filters at once, and Instant sells the compatible 210-0063-01 replacement pack. Do not assume a calendar- or cycle-based replacement schedule when the manufacturer documentation does not provide one.

Contextual alternatives

The COSORI TurboBlaze is also a 6-quart single-basket air fryer, but it spans 90°F–450°F and uses five preset-assigned fan speeds. It has no ClearCook viewing window. Choose the Instant when visual monitoring, its light, Turn Food reminder, and filter system matter more; choose the TurboBlaze when the 450°F ceiling and its broader mode-led airflow system are the priority.

The Ninja Air Fryer Max XL AF161 is a 5.5-quart alternative with a 105°F–450°F range and a dedicated 450°F Max Crisp mode. It does not provide ClearCook or OdorErase. The Ninja Air Fryer Pro AF141 is another relevant 400°F single-basket alternative, though it has neither a window nor odor filters.
